Overlooked. That’s how it can feel to be a single girl. Whether it’s guys, church, or society, it’s as if people don’t see us. Where do we fit? Do we wait for Mr. Right, or go forge our way in the world? Come trek up to The Overlook, and we’ll dig into those questions and more as we see the view of living “a different kind of single.”
Sometimes being a single girl is like walking where the air is as clear as the kitchen after you remember that pot you put on the stove. . . three hours ago. In other words, it can be like walking through a valley where the haze has settled in and we just can’t get a clear glimpse of the road ahead.
Are we finally going to get picked by some great guy? Or will we yet again feel like the outcast from our dodgeball days, always the last left standing there?
Or are we supposed to forget that nonsense (“ain’t nobody got time for dat!”) and try taking over the world girlzilla style? Create our map leading through college and career, and then maybe marriage and family will be somewhere after that?
Or does our road go through the valley of contentment, and once we emerge from the lesson, the mountain of matrimony will be in front of us?!
Or maybe our road leads through the lonely pass of “called to singleness,” but how do we know if we’re supposed to be the next Gladys Aylward or not?!
Or has God actually forgotten us in this dreary place? Is He withholding something from us? Whether it’s marriage, purpose, or direction? And how do we figure out what we need to do or change so that God can release those blessings into our lives?
So many questions, so little time!
Our goal is to use the time we have to climb out of the valleys of vagueness and get up high where we can see the lay of the land and the beauty that is all around us, even during our journey’s darkest moments. The Overlook, where we see a bigger, grander view on our journey as singles.
When you leave the Overlook, we want an image imprinted on your heart and mind – an image of a different kind of single.
God handed Kezia an incredible perspective on life, family, ministry, and singleness; and she grabbed hold of it and took off down the single trail. . . only to be stopped mid-charge by God and asked to take a different path. She has so much amazing insight on the thoughts and situations we single girls face, so don’t dismiss her because she’s a traitor! (Her son is super cute, so it’s okay :).)
Ever been afraid of being lonely forever? Loneliness is no fairy tale! The struggle is real!! And it’s been real for Becky too! She’s willing to share from some deep places in her heart so we can all face this word “loneliness” together!
If you’re more into action than dreaming, or if you have more aspirations for world domination than for keeping an awesome house, then Laura’s perspective may resonate. World ruler or not, she’s really passionate about living differently, whether that’s in singleness, marriage, how we do relationships, or how we view our relationship status.
