“Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints”
Colossians 1:26
So, I have a question for you, do you like a good mystery? One that is intriguing, and captivating? Where you gladly read for hours as you eagerly anticipate discovering the outcome?
I remember reading different mystery books as a teen and the good ones where so hard to put down when I had to go take care of other responsibilities. But as I grew up I don’t know how many times my dad would have read this verse in Colossians and others that mention the mystery of God, and I never heard this one (or the others), and we read through the Bible multiple times in my growing up years. I didn’t know God had a mystery. Did you know that?
It wasn’t until a few years ago that someone shared about God having “a mystery” and I was like, “Wait WHAT???! God has a mystery? What is it?”
Our verse says that this mystery was hidden in past ages and generations, but NOW HAS BEEN MANIFESTED TO THE SAINTS. So not only does God have a mystery, but God has manifested His mystery to His people. So how, if it has been manifested, did I not even know God had a mystery or how did you never hear about God having a mystery?
In one way it is because the mystery has been manifested; God has revealed what His mystery is to His people. So we are not aware of God having a mystery because we already know the outcome.
In another way, Satan uses our selfishness and complacency to blind us to God’s mystery and His revelation of the mystery. And this is far more true for the majority of Christians today than the reason mentioned above. Most Christians are totally unaware that God has a mystery and that He has manifested His mystery to His people. Are you one of them? I have been one of those Christians. If you are one of them, know that God is rich in mercy and has power to make blind eyes, seeing eyes.
Have you ever considered those believers in past ages and generations who didn’t know the outcome to God’s mystery? They were simply a part of it, or like Isaiah, they were inspired by the Spirit of God to speak and write prophetic words that added to other God breathed words spoken or written before hand and built upon Gods mystery. Have you ever considered how Abraham or Moses, or Samuel, or Rahaab or Ruth or Isaiah, or Micah, would have heard and known earlier parts of God’s mystery and longed to know the outcome? Look at how Peter shares it “As to this salvation (this is part of God’s mystery), the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.” 1 Pet. 1:10-12 Even the angels long to look into God’s mystery.
So my friends, God has a mystery, and He mystery has been manifested. God HAS revealed it to His saints. Have you seen the revelation of it? If not, I encourage you to pray and ask God to open your eyes to behold His mystery and it’s manifestation. If you have seen it, pray and ask God to open your eyes to see more because “just as it is written,“THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.” 1 Cor. 2:9
“Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret for long ages past, but now is manifested, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, has been made known to all the nations, leading to obedience of faith; to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever. Amen.“ Romans 16:25-27
